The European Commission has announced the proposal for a strategic European partnership on Smart Networks and Services as a Joint Undertaking, with an indicative budget of €900 million over the new long-term budget period 2021-2027. This body will coordinate research activities on 6G technology under Horizon Europe as well as 5G deployment initiatives under the Connecting Europe Facility Digital and other programmes.
The European Union is joining the bandwagon, along with other countries around the world including the USA, Japan and China, in making 6G a reality. International collaboration and cooperation would be the key to ensure a successful global 6G rollout. There is a need for a global unitary 6G standards because it will promote higher efficiency and higher level of innovation. Humans can do great things, if only we all work together.
